The New York Landmarks Conservancy Sacred Sites Open House
Calvary-St. George’s is thrilled to be a part of The New York Landmarks Conservancy’s “Sacred Sites” open house series on Saturday, May 17. This year’s NYLC open house theme is Building for Eternity: Religious Architecture and Artisans.
Dive into Calvary Church’s rich history and unique features from 10:00am-3:30pm with a self-guided audio tour accessible via smartphone. The tour will highlight our building’s connection to Rowland Hazard, John Henry Newman, Henry Yates Satterlee, Eleanor Roosevelt, and more. At 12:00pm we will have a sung Noonday Prayer with the School of Sacred Music, followed by a short reflection on Calvary Church’s history and restoration by the Reverend Jacob Smith.
At St. George’s, from 10:00am-4:00pm the church will be open for self-guided tours with a printed brochure. Docent-led tours will be offered on the half hour, meeting at the entrance to the church. From 12:00pm-4:00pm, the Jack and Jill School is holding its Spring Fair, open to children and their families. At 4:00pm, join us for an organ concert in the main sanctuary followed by a cash reception in St. George’s Chapel.
