Please join Dr. Michael Straus and the Rev. Janet Broderick for a journey into the world of John’s Revelation. Revelation is the Bible’s prime example of so-called “apocalyptic” literature, a genre through which hidden things are said to be revealed. Even so, the dramatic imagery of the book, its non-linear flow, the multiple ways in which it has been interpreted over the past 2000 years and even the ways it appears in popular culture, can make it seem to be anything but clear. Indeed, for some it’s just plain confusing, weird and even scary. But we’ll do our best to make sense of it together and in so doing claim the book’s unique promise: “Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of the prophecy, and blessed are those who hear and who keep what is written in it; for the time is near.” (Rev. 1:3).
If you can, read the Book of Revelation before the Forum begins. You can pick up Dr. Straus' translation here, but any translation will do!
