Frequently Asked Questions
What is Creative Arts Camp?
Creative Arts Camp, established in 2009, is a week-long afterschool camp open to elementary and middle school kids from all over the city. We learn about a story of the Bible through song, storytelling, shadow puppets, and crafting.
We utilize a Storymakers zine, bible curriculum developed in and used by our own parish. Each chapter includes vibrant visual art, a Bible story told as a play, thoughts to ponder, fun facts, social-emotional processing and creative activities. We believe it is a unique and creatively balanced approach to engaging with God’s story.
On Friday at pickup, the children perform their camp song, parents enjoy the camp video featuring footage from our week, and the middle schoolers perform the play.
What ages are served?
Our camp serves school-aged children, from Prek-8th Grade. Children are organized by grade level, with 6th-8th grade often merged into one group. Middle school children work through the curriculum a little faster and then prepare to perform a play at the end of the week. We welcome older siblings and college students to help as camp counselors or counselors-in-training. Being a camp counselor requires attendance of a few preparation meetings. Why do you need my address?
We send the kids postcards via snail mail. It’s a fun way to connect and get excited about camp.
How can I help?
We welcome volunteers to help register, teach, and decorate! Traditionally, CAC has an incredibly decorated set. We begin preparation in the weekends leading up and welcome your help. Do you have extra crafting materials laying around? We welcome donation of supplies like paper, tape, paint, clay, etc. Let us know!
